I believe you could get a fine for a box of bits. If it does not have insurance, it must be sorned

A bike must be SORNed if it's not on the road whether it is insured or not. It's been a legal requirement to declare SORN in this case since SORN was introduced back in the late 90s.
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.
