Re: KNACKERED IN THE USA
So long as the motor is decent just start at the front and work backwards!!! Amazing how a bike can start to look once all the crap bits are removed and a few new bolts and bits are added...
Ebay is defo going to be your friend, you thinking of using Chinese ABS fairings or sourcing OEM???
http://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=190526 ive followed this build since the start and it has made me bash the card a few times

Re: KNACKERED IN THE USA
That's a great thread. I have an older magazine article about a guy who painstakingly restored his NC30.
Hey Wheeliethis, there are some good parts on ebay right now, including some RVF400 front forks that look to be in good condition. Also if you ever get fed up or don't have the time to work on that, you can always ship it to SoCal.

Re: KNACKERED IN THE USA
already bought a ton of stuff on the bay. i dont want to replace my rads as they are the super cool HRC kit rads. i have race plastic but my goal is all carbon tyga. i need to sell a bunch of stuff to afford that. this thing is going to be pretty stipped down, not a lot of components. i am going to powder coat or paint most things satin black. silver parts will be brushed finish or bead blasted finish. think Exile Cycles only with a sport bike and some carbon.
And for those here in the states, FYI , American Honda has air fliters, carb rebuild kits, spark plugs, valve cover gaskets, and fuel petcock levers in stock. they only fit the NC35, so i dont why.

Yo, fellow RVF'r from Cali. Any updates on your resurrection? I did a conversion on my RVF400 from track back to street. Any more pics you can share on your progress or your bike's current state would be awesome!

Re: KNACKERED IN THE USA
slow, very slow. my wife and 2yr old take most of my attention. i got a ton of new parts from work, thermostat, carb kits, lots of basic maintenance parts, lots of o-rings, ect.....
basically i am doing the race manual in reverse. i have been locating parts for the starting system first, should be good to go now as i just got the last part i need from ebay. btw, the starting clutch gear and bearing are the same as a 1988-91 vtr250. got mine for $25 instead of $120 new.
lower rad is being welded now, top is leak free.
just rebuilt the carbs. old jetting 148 front, 152 rear, ram air, no filter. new jetting, best guess is 118 front and 120 rear. middle clip on all needles. will be using hrc air box with filter and hrc full system.

Re: KNACKERED IN THE USA
Good to know all of the cross referenced parts for when my stuff goes lol. Looks like a great project. I'm currently waiting for new bodywork for my NC35. Hopefully it will be here in about a week. There are small upgrades I want to do but not in a big hurry. Eventually I want to take my bike out to the track and test her out. I'm sure it will be a blast! Keep us posted with your progress!

Re: KNACKERED IN THE USA
well, got all the bases covered and tried to start it today. starting system in place, lots of new seals and gaskets, oil filter and oil fresh, carbs set and clean with new air filter, valve clearances checked, fully charged battery(its still a loss system as i dont have a stator yet), poured in some fresh gas, hit the starter button, and BOOM! it fired right up after 3 seconds of cranking. it stumbled a little and died once as the bowls were still filling up with fuel. it soon purred like a kitten, albiet a kitten that sounds like an f-14 with an after burrner as i have no end can fitted yet. it reved cleanly and crisp. after collecting dust for 11 yrs, it is wonderful to hear it scream again. i ran it for about 20 min.
i had to bypass the lower rad as it might be unsalvgeable. even with just the hrc upper, it took almost 3 liters of fresh coolant. half a liter more than stock. i am considering using just the upper with a fan if i cant get a lower rad.
i will have a vid up soon of its re-awakening.
now the hard part begins, cleaning it, then making it pretty and fuctional. some part of me wants to go the street fighter route.

Re: KNACKERED IN THE USA
+ 1 I'm down with naked bikes, but these don't do that well. Those cheap chinese lower rads are actually pretty nice. Not RO race rad standards, but they'll do in a pinch.triniriderz.com wrote:DONT, PLEASE DONT, PRETTY PLEASE WITH SUGER ONTOP DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!WHEELIETHIS wrote:streetfighter route.![]()
being able to ride from point A to point B does not mean you have skills
