The readings you need to check the genny output are (at either the first plug, by your right knee - or in the end of the rectifier plug)

Yellow A + Yellow B
Yellow B + Yellow C
Yellow C + Yellow A

See what the output is in AC volts. should be approx 50v AC at 5k revs. If not 50 across each three tests - genny is fooked.

Also, then use the same wiring and do a resistance check - you want no resistance in the wires. If you get resistance in the wires - the genny is fooked.

To check the reg rec works, connect it all up - set meter to V DC and see what the battery charge is at 5k revs. It should rise from 13 at idel to between 13.4 and 14.5 (approx) at 5k revs.

If it carries on climbing, the reg rec is fooked. If it does not go high enough, the reg rec is fooked.

Simple!
