Re: nc21
There are three versions of the nc21;
faired vfr400r
unfaired with twin headlamps attatched to the frame like a Triuumph vfr400z
unfaired with a single headlamp attatched to the forks and the only one with a centre-stand,high handlebars and low footpegs. vfr400k
All three are really the same bike and share most components. The nc24 is also really the same bike except with a single sided swing-arm.They are light [365lbs] handle well and go like stink[55-60bhp 125mph] and should be fairly reliable.
I would check it over as you would any second-hand bike.Look at obvious things like excesive smoke or strange noises from the engine, oil or coolant leaks, operation of the brakes, operation of lights, indicators and horn, codition of chain, sprockets and tyres, and the state of whel and headrace bearings. The expensive job could be to replace the exhaust collector, which rusts because it is only made of mild steel[recycled sardine tins],but which is not a cheap component and you have to take the motor out to fit it.

Re: nc21
How cheap is cheap? Parts can be hard to get for some things and it'll never be worth any money even if its mint (at least for the for-seeable future.) as its overshadowed by the NC30.troid wrote:hi all

The VFR400K is a training school bike and are harder to get parts for in this country.
365lbs (165kg) is dry weight. With fuel / oil / coolant etc they weigh 183kg (404lbs)
As already mentioned the exhuast system is a nightmare and you need to remove the engine to change it (you'll also need to spend about £150 if you can get one)
They all had 59PS (60bhp) when they were new.
The NC24 although sharing the same frame as the NC21 is different internally. (I hate it when people say there the same, espeically ebay sellers

The NC21 has a different ratio 6th gear 1.227 as opposed to 1.192 of the NC24
Carbs and jetting is different (VDA0 vs VDE2)
There are some other internal engine differences between the 21/24 too, as well as the hydraulic clutch.
The NC21 makes 3.7 kg-m (26.8 lbft) of torque, the NC24 makes 4.0 (28.95 lbft)
Basically.... depending on whats wrong with it it'll be an ok winter hack. Wont' be worth much regardless of what you do to it. (ie £500)

Re: nc21
spoke with the guy tonight he is willing to let it go for £250.00 it is the full fairing model, it has tatty body work (no cracks in fairing) and the fork seals require replacing, its a mate of a mate he only got it cos he got knocked of his bike and wanted something to get back on the road (broke his back), my mate had a quick look over it when he got it and said it wasnt to bad, but his got a new r6 so is just selling as not used, still runs but no mot or tax, i dont mind spending a little but as its not as wanted as much i dont want to be unable to sell in spring
am not after making money really something to do at night and weekends but working out minimum bits really would be fork seals and oil, service kit, pair of tyres and paint job (will do myself) this is including the cost of the bike is about £500 which by the sounds of it is what i might get back in spring if am lucky,
is it worth more in bits if there is not many about?

Re: nc21
Nah not really, just do a serach on NC21 on ebay. theres tonnes of bits about. the only things that are worth any money are decent collectorboxes. Tyres are around £80 each, Oil another £25, Air Filter: £20, Spark Plugs £25, Fork Oil £10, Tax: £33, MOT: £28. Add that onto your £250 and your already at £551, and thats presuming that nothign else is wrong with the bike and not counting the amount of time you'll spend gettin it up and running.troid wrote:spoke with the guy tonight he is willing to let it go for £250.00 it is the full fairing model, it has tatty body work (no cracks in fairing) and the fork seals require replacing, its a mate of a mate he only got it cos he got knocked of his bike and wanted something to get back on the road (broke his back), my mate had a quick look over it when he got it and said it wasnt to bad, but his got a new r6 so is just selling as not used, still runs but no mot or tax, i dont mind spending a little but as its not as wanted as much i dont want to be unable to sell in spring

By all means buy the bike but try and get it cheaper if you can! :D They are a decent bike but it's just a shame it needs stuff doing to it.
