nc35 Engine chugging/ cutting out?

Post by Chase123 » Fri May 03, 2013 6:47 am

Well my bike has been working fine, until today i was riding around and as i leaned into a bend i thought i felt a little chug, like the bike had turned off for a split second or something. This happened again minutes later while riding straight. So i decided to head home about 5 minutes after the last chug it did it again only more violently (CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG) with the electronics on my dash flashing and no acceleration, rolled off the accelerator a bit then slowly rolled it back on it seemed to bring it back up, this happened another 3 times in the 10 minutes of riding home any ideas guys?

Reg/rec?
Shit fuel?
battery?

Could be quite a few things, but most likely the charging circuit in my opinion.

If you have a multimeter ($10 for a cheap one) you can diagnose this easily yourself, charging system checks guide here: http://www.400greybike.com/docs.htm

Report back with what you find.

You can open Word documents in Open Office. It's a free download from openoffice.org

sounds like your alternator stator has gone and it's no longer charging the battery
could also be the regulator/rectifier has gone

measure the voltage across the battery with the engine running, should be around 14.5V (rev it up to 5000rpm - should not go above 14.5V - if it goes above this e.g. hits 19V it's the reg/rec) if it's not getting near 14/14.5V it's the alternator/stator
