Topping up coolant

Post by philst88 » Tue Apr 30, 2013 10:17 am

The bike is low on coolant so just going to top it up. It has an hrc radiator overflow so do i need to fill this up to a certain level or do i just top up the radiator itself?

Your going to need to top up the radiator itself, then put a decent amount of coolant in the overflow with the pipe end sitting underneath the coolant level in the reservoir.

Then run the bike up to temp and get it hot, it'll push out the air in the pipe and rad valve and when cooled down will suck back in coolant.

Just keep an eye on it, there's a reason it's not supposed to be for road use ;)

The HRC bottle is a catch tank not a resevoir, you don't put any fluid in it.

You do if you have it on a road bike and don't want big air bubbles appearing in your rad system causing an over-heat....

Just to add, I know it's a catch tank, but I use the bike everyday now (didn't when I fitted it) and cannot be arsed to keep checking and topping up the system every night.
