What type plastic?

Post by V4beermonster » Sat Feb 02, 2013 3:53 pm

Hey guys does anyone know what type of plastic the nc30 fairing are made from? Have been doing some repairs to my fairings but need to know the type as 2 different plastics can't be welded together

Bike fairings are normally ABS :peace:

I normally use a piece of an old scrap panel and melt that down and paste it on
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

I've used a soldering iron to spot weld the pieces together and has worked, really strong repair have used a Drexel to channel out along the cracks ready to weld along

I pieced together some bits using a bottle of solvent that I have for making model kits with. Stuff called EMA Plastic Weld. It's a proper solvent, so you can use it on both surfaces to stick the stuff back together, and plaster the back with loads more and use the paintbrush to dissolve plenty more of the plastic to get a better bond. If you had some scrap or some ABS rods you could also bulk up the joint.
