How many miles has your NC30 done?

70 000km, needs new valve stem seals and it's a bit hard to shift from 1st to 2nd. Maintenance has been neglected for many years so compared to that it's in good shape.

And yes, I would wait for a low-miles, never thrashed bike with the full service history, but cash really is the issue and I have a feeling I wouldn't be the only person interested..... Not many NC30's floating round for two grand, unfortunately...

Now, of course, I have CRM's "Buy the best you can find, not the best you can afford" ringing in my ears...

Just out of interest, what's the highest genuine mileage anyone's heard of on a stock bike?

Many, even the CBR250s with their redline of 19000rpm would do well over 100,000km if serviced and maintained and not overly abused.

Proiding the milage isnt astronomically high then ignore it on all bikes and listen to the engine.

id be more interested in guaranteed low milers if they ran right as there is less chance of abuse and neglect but anything over 10,000km and it always has the possiblity of neglect abuse for me so i go by sound of bike and condition of it (I dont mean clean!) I mean bearings / shock condition / forks / sound of engine etc)

I've just picked one up in those colours off the forum. Needs some work but also the owner was in the process of doing this himself. Calipers all ready to be rebuilt forks waiting to be rebuilt with a RO fork kit. As long as the heart of the machine is fine all the rest can be sorted easily with time.

There is an nc30 currently touring in Europe with clocks over 135K and still going strong.

hi my nc30 which i got new in 92 has done the following 17 years of racing, trackdays, sprints, hillclimbs and 40k of road miles still runs sweet and still made 65@wheel on mr slick's dyno. now sat on the shelf waiting for a stripdown. hope the new motor lasts as good only done 1 mgp 1 s100 14 races 2 sprints so a bit to go yet james

Had a look at the bike this morning.... in terrible condition and the guy said he wished he'd never bought it!

The idle sounded ok... but a blip on the throttle and it would take a while for the revs to calm down.... not sure what was going on with that... radiator fins were almost all bent and were full of crap, the fork seals were gone, most bolts on the bike were burred from god knows how many fools bungling with it... I could go on...

How many sellers are straight-up these days and tell you the bike's a lemon from the get go? I appreciated the honesty.

Sounds like it is worth less than half of what he is asking.

For a decent NC30 you would need to spend 3-4 grand.

dave gunthor from this ere parish racked up around 140k if i recall, sold it still going strong and bought another to do the same on.

Yup, think the NC30 had done around 110,000 miles (176,000Km) engine was still awesome, bodywork, electrics and brake calipers were a little tired is all - got turned into a race/track bike.

Gear driven cams are a godsend for high mileage :-)

Tail unit plastics are better on the NC35 apart from the H or T piece by the rear brake lights is still a weak point.
NC35 up to 32,000Km now - so plenty of life left in her :-)
Back commuting 400 miles/month again now (was 1800 miles/month back on the NC30!)

Great bikes if you keep on top of the maintenance.

At the age they all are now, I'd be less concerned by mileage and more concerned by condition.
