fender mount helicoil or not?

Post by slowsport » Wed Jun 13, 2012 3:02 pm

Hi, I recently been having trouble trying to get my front fender off due to siezed bolts and rounded off allen heads. I went about to fix this by welding a hex bolt on top instead of the allen style, so this lead to snapped bolts. After many attemps and different strategies to remove the stub I was successful in taking the remainder of the bolts completely.

Now my question is do helicoils decrease the chances of siezed bolts or are they solely made purpose is to fix broken mounts stronger? So should I just put new bolts in with a bit of copper grease/anti-seize on the threads or while I have the opportunity should I install helicoils?

Thanks Slowsport.

sorry no, my bike is a NC35 but I have gotten all the bolts off the fender mounts I was just asking if anyone knew if helicoils in nature would help prevent bolts siezing, or if my best bet is to retap the threads to clean and use copper/anti-sieze grease as I do not want to go through that ball ache again.

Thanks Slowsport

Just retap and copper slip,

Hellicoils are used on usually engines and major parts when all else fails, but hellicoils alone are not complete problem solvers, for the job you need them for id say its ott.
