Calipers pistons and seals
Since I've been back out on the road I've felt a little let down by my brakes. They slow you down but they don't really stop you like I remember my other bikes doing.
I pulled them apart today and I believe the seals are ok but a few of the pistons are toast.
I've found a seller on eBay the does new seals for 1 complete caliper for £12 but I've had no luck with pistons.
Has anyone seen caliper pistons for sale for reasonable money?

I would say 5 out of the 8 would tidy up with a bit of elbow grease but the rest are beyond it

Re: Calipers pistons and seals
Mine were rough, and with half an hours work each as good as new and brakes on back ace, got firestorms on front.royster81 wrote:I would say 5 out of the 8 would tidy up with a bit of elbow grease but the rest are beyond it

Re: Calipers pistons and seals
Hmm.. maybe new piston time.
However, work out how many you need, you might be able to get a good set of fireblade calipers etc (with appropriate lines brackets if needed) that work out cheaper than buying all the pistons.
I think this is the reason some people upgrade brakes.
I have stock Nissin calipers, they have new seals all around and were cleaned spotless, all of the pistons were mint too, few people have ridden my bike and all have said the brakes are awesome.
Oodles of stopping power, no play in the lever at all.
Love the standard calipers, but if it's going to cost more than to upgrade then you might be better upgrading.
