low oil pressure at tickover FAULT FOUND

Post by GIXERMARK0 » Wed Jul 27, 2011 10:40 pm

Just an update took the sump off and 3 bolts droped down the strainer was on the bottom of the sump and the pipe from the pump to the engine has both clamps broken and 1 o ring split I can get 2 bolts back in but not the 3rd (one next to pick up pipe)
so the pump was not held in place
I have the spairs off the pump I purchased so what do I put on the bolts to lock them in place (loctight 638) or just standard thread lock

So looks as some ones been in there or its worked lose over the 16 years I think iv caught it in time

im amazed it didnt brake any thing

so id never of guessed to find the above

I said it wasnt well! I've found stuff in the sump before.... never ever heard of one ever coming loose from the factory.. sounds like it has been messed with and gave way.

How's the rest of the bike doing? Running it with low oil pressure risks damage to the top end

15 years? Is it an RVF?

They stopped making the NC30 in 1992 so if it's a 30 it'll be at least 19 years old, although you could still buy unsold ones for a couple of years after that they were still made in 1992..

If that bolts are loose / broken then either something has snapped through mechanical failure or somebody has over-tightened something and bodged it in the past.

The bolts are all originally fitted with thread-lock so they dont' come un-done.

Weird one.. never seen a break there

If it's an import ignore all the registration documentation :P It's never reliable... they did indeed stop making them in 1992 so it won't have been made later than then.. could have been sold though later though.. does it still have the original fairings on it? Can give you an idea of the year by those.

This is odd.

Is it the correct bolt? (From your description the holes too small for the bolt!?)

Usually the hole is too big as the thread gets pulled out so the bolt will just fit loosely in the hole.

The hole can't usually get smaller...

hi
the bolt is a m6 i can get a 5mm drill shaft up the hole with no problem the core of an m6 thread is 5.4mm
a 6mm drill will not go into the hole and also i am unable to feel a thread its almost like its never been threaded
or as the pump was lose then the start of the hole has been deformed by the pump cltaring on the surface
