poorly RVF....advice needed folks.

Post by philnc35 » Fri May 28, 2010 11:07 pm

hi folks. i started my bike tonight and she started perfectly. however after a few mins of warming up, the revs started to die down. gave it a little blip too 'clear its throat' as it were and it just died. started straight back up and seemed to be running on 3 cylinders. few misfires occured too. tried to ride away and as soon as the bike was put under load it got worse. got a hundred yards down the road and decided to stop. checked fuel and it has plenty. choke was off. also checked to see if the fuel was not switched off. decided to try and get it home and after a few mins it just seemed to start running perfectly. the ride back was without a hickup. im going to check the plugs tomorrow but what else should i check over??

Something similar happened repeatedly to my CB4 a few years ago. I think a bit of water got in the HT lead at the spark plug. Quick squirt with WD40 and a wipe with a cloth and it happened again! It also happened on my new CB4 a couple of weeks ago and I keep meaning to check the plugs . . .

yea i will get the plugs changed at some point soon. she ran lovely for the rest of the journey. had a feeling i would be calling the RAC out tonight. thought at first i may have flooded it with the choke fully open. reckon it would be worth checking the air filter too?

Could easily be a dodgy vacuum hose - check it out. They split or even collapse under load..Rick Oliver does a bargain replacement ;)
