2-pack or powder coat my vfr wheels??
basically as title.....
found it quite ammusing after waiting 3 days for the 46mm sockets to arrive so i could undo the HUGE hub nut only to relize that the wheel almost fell off with just a few rubber mallet whacks with just the 36mm axel nut off lol noob!!! so anyways, ready now to paint the wheels but what to do!? the front bearings are proper new condition so seemed a shame to remove and replace just for the powder coat privilage..... rang around some firms and asked and most have said id get a nicer finish with the 2k and i could leave the bearings in! or take them out and powder coat f/r wheels!?
im thinking but unsure if its worth replacing any of the bearings tbh cos all look great condition and could save a few pennies. whats your thoughts?? i know it seems stupid not to do them cos the wheels are off and all is accesible atm but........ plus, i rang david silvers and he priced me £173 for front,rear and headstocks + all seals. loads of coin tbh!!! unsure what to do.

I always go for 2 pack, better finish than most powder coaters. Good powder coaters can charge £100+ for a set, cheap ones £50 a set

Re: 2-pack or powder coat my vfr wheels??
im seriously considering the 2k too mate tbh, my mito wheels are 2k and look awsome. just some lads over on 125 forum are saying powder coating is the only proper job to do the wheels!? after chatting to few diff firms today too im not so sure. problem now is to change the rear hub bearings? and do i do the front too while im at it? then i may aswell do the head stock too lol see my dilema.
iv been trolling internet most of the day looking for the pros-cons of 2k/powdercoating too...... it looks 50/50 tbh but more have stated a nicer finish with the 2k plus it will bond better to the ally over the powdercoat which effectivly is a hard skin on top of the wheels :$

Been considering the same thing myself and saw this on www.sv650.org
http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php? ... coat+paint
don't know if it helps or causes more confusion

Can't comment on the painting malarkey but, personally, I wouldn't change the bearings if they are decent - just pop the rubber seals out, repack with grease & pop the seals back in. The bearings will last forever (almost
)
If you do need bearings try bikebearings.co.uk - quick, cheap & helpful & do most of the seals too

Not Knocking the guys with powdered wheels but i'd take 2K every time - so long as its applied right with a etch primer. You dont see car or bike manufacturers powering the panels, its quite ridged and can crack.
Fishing rods are finished in clear 2K and have you seen how much stick they can take, its the best paint and is easily touched up.
